Fishing Report

Saturday July 5th
High of 81 degrees and mostly sunny winds are NE15-20 mph. Water temperature is 73 degrees. Sunset is at 8:23 P.M. and sunrise is at 5:51 A.M.
Not many reports have come in but Puppy drum runs have been reported at Jeannette’s Pier. The Sound is producing flounder, trout, and some puppy drum as well.
Good catches of blue fish have been reported up and down the beaches. Hatteras will be closed for awhile due to the storm. This is forcing the beaches north to be crowded so pier fishing has been popular but surf fishing has been good if you can find a good spot

Fishing Report

Strong North Eastern winds tonight with the storm hitting the northern beaches and the storm will produce lots of rain. However, New estimates put the storm’s peak at 105 mph sustained winds, a Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, by the time it reaches the Outer Banks.

Arthur, which is 70 miles south-southeast of Cape Fear, is expected to turn to the northeast and accelerate.

“The official forecast shows the center of Arthur moving very close to the North Carolina Outer Banks late tonight and early Friday,” the Hurricane Center said.

Fishing Report

For Wed. July 2nd we are looking at a average temperature around 87 degrees. The tides are coming in with low tide at 5:24 AM, and 5:34 PM. High tides will be rolling in at 11:31 AM, and 11:32 PM.
W/SW 10-15mph has dirtied up the water. All surf and pier reports are reporting heavy bottom fish catch’s: Sea Mullet, Spot, Croaker, Some Blues, One or Two Puppys caught down by Nags Head Pier.
Oregon Inlet fishing bridge reported some flounder being caught this morning and also caught many small sheepshead.
With the unpredictable storm coming you should try and fish hard today and tomorrow because its supposed to hit by Thursday night, but you never know! Good Luck and come see us at the shop!!

fishing report

Saturday has been windy with a hard 20 mph wind coming from the east/SE. However many fish have been reported. The water is worm at 77 degrees, and it is clear. Low tides will be at 3:07 am, 2:50 pm…High tides are at 8:52 am, 9:01 pm.
The piers are reporting blues, Spanish, and some flounder.
The surf seems to have the most reports of being caught. Today has been a very good flounder day with over 20 being reported to us so that makes sense why the surf is better than the piers today. The water is clearing up and making tomorrow look like it will be a very good day. Come see us we will tell you where to go and what to use!

****Pompano with big sizes reported in good numbers on south nags head beach about mp 15, caught on squid strips and one puppy drum was caught on sandflees.

Fishing Report

The fishing has been a bit slow the past couple of days but people are still catching some fish. The wind has changed now towards the east which should clear up the water. There have been reports of Spanish and Blues on the end of Avalon pier. Also, Black Drum have been reported as well as sharks and skates. All up and down the surf they are catching a mix of bottom fish and an occasional puppy drum, so the fish are there and its picking up every minute. Don’t miss out on the run come see us.

Fishing Report Thursday 6/26/2014

The weatherman lied to us this morning – he said cloudy, chance of rain, SW wind – it’s been sunny, clear and hot with a light wind all over the map.  Sunset tonite is at 8:23 PM and tomorrow’s sunrise is 5:48 AM. First tide is a low at 1:51 AM with a high at 7:31 AM Second tide is low at 1:28 PM followed with the high at 7:47 PM

The GOOD NEWS is the summer solstice was last Saturday morning and that was the official start of summer.  The BAD NEWS is the summer solstice was Saturday and it was the longest day of the year and until the winter solstice in mid December, all the days that follow will continue to get shorter.  As long as we’re on a Debbie downer, Wednesday’s mid 70’s sea water temp is today’s low 60’s.  Expect tomorrow’s wind change to warm it up again.

Checking with the beaches and piers, the skate bite is on again – blame it on the cooler water.  The boats have the strategic advantage in that they can navigate to better water conditions on days like today – check with your favorite charter fleet to see what options are available to you.

Be a hero  ……    TAKE A KID FISHING !!!
