Fishing Report: 8/28/13
Today’s high temp will be 87 degrees. Winds will be SW again at 10-15 mph. Forecasts call for partly cloudy skies and a 50% of rain during the day increasing to 60% in the evening. Sunrise is at 6:30am, Sunset is at 7:37pm. Tides at Jennette’s Pier: 1st high 1:07am, low 7:20am – 2nd high 1:47pm, low 8:38pm.
Contrary to yesterday’s prediction, beach and pier fishing was fairly decent. Water temps stayed in the mid 70s and the water got cleaner in the pm. Sea mullet, small spot, bluefish and some small puppy drum were landed during the day. Checking with the piers, they all reported a mixed bag with mostly bluefish, sea mullet and spot, also a few puppy drum and pompano.
Unsure if the charter fleet is going out today but Tuesday was pretty good – offshore boys landed over 100 marlin, lots of mahi-mahi and some yellowfin tuna. Inshore boats caught cobia, amberjack and triggerfish. Nearshore took lots of bluefish and spanish macs from the ocean and some speckles and puppy drum from the soundside.
Anyone looking for a surf fishing adventure, Cape Hatteras (the point) is open to vehicular traffic (driving permit required).
Good luck to all. As always, take a kid fishing!!! Coolbreeze out.
